How To Move Apps To Memory Card On Zte Phone

Are your apps taking up too much room on your phone's internal storage? If you are running an older version of Android, you may be able to move your apps to your SD card. Note: Most phones running Android 4.0 - 4.2 will NOT be able to move apps. Google has removed this feature from the operating system.[1] It was re-enabled in 4.3, but only for specific phones, and the app developer has to allow it. To learn how to move apps if your phone allows it, see Step 1 below.

Steps

  1. 1

Open Settings. You can access Settings from the icon on your Home screen, app drawer or from your phone's Menu button.

  2. 2

Tap Applications, Apps, or Application Manager. You may need to scroll down to find it. The label changes depending on the phone and version you are using.

  3. 3

Tap Manage Applications. If you are using Android 2.2, you will need to tap this to open your Applications list. If you are running a later version, you will already see your list of apps.

  4. 4

Select an App. Tap on the app that you want to move to SD card. Look for a button that says "Move to SD Card". Tap it to move the app. If the button is greyed out, the app does not support moving to the SD card. If the button is missing your version of Android and your phone do not support moving apps to the SD card.[2]

    • Remember, an app has to be specifically designed to allow being moved to an SD card in order for this option to be available.[3]
  5. 5

Download an app mover. You can download apps such as Link2SD that will allow you to quickly see which of your apps can be moved to the SD card, saving you the time of going through each app one by one. These apps may even be able to move apps that don't normally support being moved, though this may cause issues when you run them.

    • These programs are much more effective if your phone has been rooted.

  • Question

How can I put apps on an SD card?

    Community Answer

Go to your app settings, choose an app, and click "Move to SD Card". It might also say "Move to USB Storage" or "Move to External Storage", but they all do the same thing. If one of those options isn't available, you either don't have external storage on your phone/tablet, or the app is already on the external storage. Also, some apps can not be moved, if the app developer has chosen so. In that case, you can root your device, and forcibly move the app.

  • Question

I have no apps other than what came on my phone, an Android 4.4. Why can't I move data from internal to external storage? It says there is not enough space to install anything! What can I do?

    Community Answer

Those apps are built-in and usually can't be moved to external storage. Is it possible that you have a lot of photos and/or videos on your phone? If so, you should be able to move those to external storage to make space. Also, try going to "Storage" in your settings, then change the Preferred installation storage device from internal storage to external storage. All apps installed after that should be on the SD card. (And you will need the card to open the app.)
